Future Importance of Libraries
Libraries are important to the future of North Carolina in many ways. Some such ways include:
- Education is built on books and access to media sources. Libraries provide quick, free, and easy access to necessary reading material.
- Many school libraries are technology hubs for students and staff.
- Libraries provide access to technology that enables students to learn beyond the classroom.
- Public and school libraries provide access to the Internet for students and adults who do not have access at home.
- Libraries provide safe and quiet places for many students before school, during lunch, and after school. In addition to allowing students a quiet place to work, libraries also provide a safe place for students who might be targets to bullies. Furthermore, librarians can provide support to students who feel bullied.
"A school library is like the Bat Cave: it's a safe fortress in a chaotic world, a source of knowledge and the lair of a superhero. True, the superhero is more likely to be wearing a cardigan than a batsuit, but still..." Author Tom Angleberger
